According to Associated Press, UEFA confirmed that the problem occurred because Tottenham sent too many people to collect their medals during the ceremony.

The European football governing body claims that clubs were informed that only 30 medals would be handed out on stage for each squad. Another 20 medals were supposed to be given to the winning club after the ceremony for distribution among players and staff.

As one of the last players in line, Son missed out on receiving a medal. While the Korean-Swedish was still without a medal during his post-match interview, he eventually received one later that evening.
